Sydney’s beautiful historic Capitol Theatre is one of Sydney’s iconic venues. The building itself began its life in 1892 as the Belmore markets, continuing on to become a hippodrome designed specifically for the Wirth Bros circus and then a Union Theatres picture palace. By the end of the 1970’s the Sydney City Council considered demolition, but in 1981 Australia’s last remaining atmospheric theatre was snatched from the jaws of the bulldozer by a Heritage Council conservation order. The Capitol Theatre then underwent a complete and thorough restoration that took two years and cost over $30 million to complete, opening its doors in 1995 for the acclaimed production of Miss Saigon.

We recommend theMarket City Car Park, Wilsons Parking (2 Quay Street, Haymarket) or Goulburn Street Parking Station (corner of Elizabeth & Goulburn Street).
Trains:
Trains: A five-minute walk from Central Station. Exit at Eddy Avenue and walk across Belmore Park.
Buses:
Nearest stop is the corner of George and Campbell Streets.
Light Rail:
Light Rail stops next to the theatre in Capitol Square.
