Originally from Sydney, this is my second year of Fringe World Festival. It can easily be said, that the Festival in Perth far outweighs the aforementioned on the East Coast. A show that contributes to the vibrant and incredible energy that is Fringe, is Shania Choir.
A semi-fan of Shania in my adolescence, with hits such as “Man I Feel Like a Woman” and “That Don’t Impress Me Much”, I was surprised by how many Shania songs I recognised. Even more surprising, was the sheer talent of this ensemble. The vocals alongside the instrumentals of this choir provided goose-bump moments and comical theatrics, resulted in an audience that was smiling from ear to ear.
Songs were interspersed with monologues performed by different ‘Shania’s’, providing insight into the artist’s childhood, marriage, rise, fall and rise again. True, some Shania’s in the delivery of monologues were far stronger than others; but those that fell short of convincing performances were forgiven by this choir’s sheer talent and infectious energy.
A promise, is that when you get to work the next day, you will most likely enter ‘Shania Twain’ on your Spotify.
